Poster, Fisherman of Norway
Norwegian fishermen have been the backbone of coastal communities for centuries, with fishing being one of the country's oldest and most important industries.
In Lofoten, in particular, fishing plays a central role, with the famous Lofoten fishery attracting fishermen from all over Norway (and the world) each winter and spring. Here, the primary catch is skrei – migrating cod from the Barents Sea – which is dried into stockfish, a tradition dating back to the Viking Age.
Lofoten is known for its unique connection between people and the sea, where fishermen’s lives are still shaped by the weather, the wind, and the shifting rhythms of the seasons.
